Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs ongoing inspections on exterior spaces. Establishes priority maintenance needs and forwards to supervisor for consideration.
- Performs maintenance such as repairs and/or painting to fences, benches, picnic tables, garbage cans, exercise station equipment, signs, shelters and any other existing structures and facilities.
- Assists with the construction of park and facility developments such as new shelters, roofing projects, masonry work, playground and park equipment.
- Controls and manages invasive vegetation in and around parks and greenways.
- Maintains grounds by fertilizing, mowing and trimming grass, raking leaves, picking up debris, etc.
- Picks up garbage, recyclables, and litter on the grounds as needed.
- Prunes healthy trees using proper pruning techniques. Removes dead or hazardous trees in the parks. Removes fallen leaves.
- Performs landscape maintenance, including edging and mulching beds, weeding, watering, fertilizing, turf renovation and pruning.
- Ensures parks' restrooms, picnic shelters and recreation areas are clean and in working order.
- Maintains, cleans, repairs and tests water at public swimming pool.
- Performs inspections on vehicles and equipment prior to use.
- Cleans, lubricates, and performs minor/routine maintenance or repair to equipment.
- Operates maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, field drag, lawn mower, utility tractor, string trimmer, chain saw, pole saw, dump truck, sod cutter, chemical sprayer, tiller, brush hog, etc.
- Loads, transports, and unloads construction equipment, materials, debris and other heavy objects related to park maintenance.
- Sets up traffic control, including signs and barricades; directs traffic around work sites when required.
- Maintains and cleans all areas of the building and grounds.
- Prepares athletic fields
- Assists with set up and tear down for special events and programs as directed.
- Responds to public works emergencies and natural disasters as necessary.
- Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
- Completes work orders, daily activity reports, inspection reports, and time sheets; maintains maintenance and service records/logs, and other pertinent information.
- Maintains appropriate records, including complete equipment repair history, work orders, daily job card, and other related data.
- Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting, investigating, and follow-up of equipment incidents or personal injuries.
- Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
- Reports to work for on-call after hours, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years' work experience in landscaping or facilities maintenance services or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
