Primary Purpose of Position: Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic law enforcement officer to assist in the management of Kerr Lake State Recreation Area. This position has total accountability for the administration and supervision of the state park in the areas of interpretation and environmental education, natural resource management, program management, law enforcement, search & rescue, emergency medical response, wildland fire suppression, and public relations.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Managing park units and providing public safety services with limited staff.

* Planning, directing, managing, and supervising all aspects of day-to-day park operations.

* Representing the park and the division and interacting with local governments, local businesses, land conservancies, and/or the public.

* Coordinating recreation, resource, management and emergency service activities between the park and multiple public safety agencies.

* Managing and monitoring of rare species and preventing encroachments of park boundary.

* Presenting interpretive programs to variety of audiences;

* Developing and managing special events while managing park's natural resources.

* Developing and managing the park budget.

* Planning short-range goals and objectives.

* Overseeing the recruitment, selection and development, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and evaluation of employees permanent and temporary staff.

Position/Physical Requirements:

* Must possess and maintain a Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.

* Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid NC driver's license within 90 days of employment.

* Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday work after regular work shifts.

* Must possess and maintain Emergency Medical Responder and CPR Certification.

* Must possess and maintain Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR), ICS-100, 200, 300.

* Must possess and maintain Wild Land Fire Suppression Certifications and Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

* Demonstrated experience in law enforcement concepts, practices and/or theories used in the technical specialty area under their direct supervision.

* Demonstrated experience interpreting and/or incorporating laws, rules, and/or regulations that affect a large segment of the public, work unit, and/or program.

* Demonstrated experience coordinating law enforcement activities between other law enforcement agencies.

* Demonstrated experience with evaluating and/or allocating resources, plan procurement and/or oversee budget and/or contracts to ensure fiscal stability of the park.

Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation and/or Natural Science or related from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

three years of experience in area of assignment;

OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
