Overview
The Parks Technician III is responsible for assisting in the management of the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of way, and beaches. The principal duty is to oversee multiple functions of park maintenance and ensure that standards in accordance with the Parks Master Plan are met. This position requires technical knowledge and understanding of park maintenance functions to include irrigation, turf management, sanitation practices, equipment functions, and landscape practices.
Responsibilities
* Collect litter, large debris, animal carcasses, and tree limbs from parkland, facilities, right of way, and beaches
* Sanitize restrooms and restock toilet paper, soap, and hand towels
* Troubleshoot and report any clogged toilets, urinals, drains, and any concerns regarding sanitation assignments
* Oversee functions of sanitation services
* Operate a zero-turn riding mower, standup mower, push mower, tractors in different terrains and slopes, troubleshoot and report concern regarding mowing assignments, and oversee functions of mowing services
* Operate gas and electric outdoor power equipment to assist subordinates with assigned maintenance functions and troubleshoot mechanical functions of power equipment
* Safely operate a work truck and/or trailer, abide by City and Department rules and regulations on operating City equipment
* Safely operate a work truck with trailer forward and reverse, negotiate turns in a safe manner without damaging trailer and/or tow hitch, and drive employee passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, and maintenance of equipment safely
* Excavate land using shovels, augers, and backhoe
* Install new or transplant plants such as trees, shrubs, and flowers
* Apply and distribute compost and mulch by hand, hand tools, or powered equipment
* Assist with the design and assignment of work regarding landscape installation
* Supervise assigned work groups, schedule projects, provide training of departmental policies and protocols to assigned staff, conduct employee performance appraisals of assigned work groups
* Crete scope of work for minor projects and coordinate and report any issues to Park Operations Supervisor; Submit requisitions for goods and commodities for assigned work groups
* Assist department leadership with goals and objectives, budget recommendations, and expenditure estimates
* Coordinate fleet repairs and track progress of repair and replacement vehicles for work crews
* Remove graffiti using chemicals or pressure washer, apply paint to walls, ceilings, poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, accessories, and any other assigned locations using a roller/paint brush
* Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
* Non-Exempt - Full-Time
* 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications
* High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of five (5) years of experience, three (3) years of which must be at a Supervisory level or an associate's degree or 2-year technical certification and three (3) years of experience, two (2) years of which must be at a Supervisory level

* A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
