Employees of this class perform routine account keeping tasks independently or assist in the more difficult or responsible account keeping functions, manually or using a computer. Work is performed under direct supervision allowing for some exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments in accordance with well defined procedures. Does related work as required. Major Responsibilities
  • Posts to journal or ledger accounts from appropriation, expense, invoice, payroll receipts, voucher records and other original entry media;
  • Records remittances after computing interest and penalties;
  • Assists in maintaining labor, material, and operational cost records;
  • Assists in verifying and reconciling account balances;
  • Types forms, form letters, transcripts, invoices, vouchers, records, payrolls, title searches, judgments, reports, index cards, time cards, and similar materials;
  • Classifies constantly recurring receipts and expenditures and distributes costs according to a prescribed code;
  • Compiles data for and assists in the preparation of simple financial and statistical reports;
  • Transcribes dictaphone cylinders and/or longhand copy;
  • Types and maintains various types of records;
  • Files requisitions, vouchers, ledger cards, and other material;
  • Compiles payroll data, prepares and checks payrolls;
  • Operates computing, calculating, validating, check writing, and other office machines.
Required Skills Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records; working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to write legibly; skill in typing at a predetermined rate of speed; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; courtesy; physical condition suitable to the demands of the position. Educational Requirements a) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and typing; or b) Two years of experience, which shall have included typing, in the maintenance of financial accounts and records; or c) An equivalent combination of training and experience and defined by the limits of (a) and (b).Schedule20 hours per weekFull consideration will be given if application is received by October 30, 2024.**This position is a Competitive Class position subject to all regulations of the Warren County Department of Civil Service.
