Job Description:
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Part-Time (not to exceed 19 hours per week) ARPA Accounting Assistant position will directly support the Finance Department and other City agencies with programmatic and financial responsibilities related to ARPA. This position will be responsible for the data collection and entry of purchase orders, invoices, vendors information, and other activities to ensure compliance with ARPA guidelines. The position will also work with other city agencies and external partners on quarterly and other reporting requirements`. Work is performed with some independent judgement within the framework of established policies and procedures and is reviewed through conferences and analysis of reports for conformance with legal requirements, accounting principles and auditing procedures by the Finance Director (or designee). Please note: This position is utilizing ARPA funding. The funding for this position is currently anticipated through April 2027 or prior based on federal regulations. REPORTS TO: Finance Director or Designee. SUPERVISES: None TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain and/or processing of vendor documentation (i.e. W-9, UEI verification, certificate of insurance, etc.).
  • Processing of invoices and purchase orders.
  • Maintaining financial and programmatic documentation to comply with the ARPA regulations.
  • Prepare various accounting tasks (i.e. journals, data entry, etc.) into the City financial ERP system.
  • Data entry into a variety of City-wide internal and external systems
  • Work with the City auditor or consultant on financial or programmatic reporting to comply with federal, state, or local guidelines.
  • Performs other related work as required.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Associates degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, public administration, or business administration or a closely related field; minimum of 1 years work experience in public service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to organize, edit, and present, clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the public, public officials and various organizations and agencies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) at an intermediate level, and the ability to learn additional computer programs/systems within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Proficiency in using standard office equipment such as copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
