Anson County Elderly ServicesPart-time Activities DirectorHourly pay is $15.00General Statement of Duties Performs program planning, implementation and publicity of programs and activities for the senior citizens in the County.Distinguishing Features of the Class An employee in this class plans, organizes, coordinates and publicizes programs and activities for senior citizens in the county. Duties include researching needs and interests: locating volunteers or instructors to conduct or lead varied program activities: publishing activity calendar: advertising events in various media: leading some groups, trips or activities; and completing organizing and maintaining proper records of the programs. Considerable public contact is involved in working with the senior citizens. Work is supervised by the Director of Elderly Services and is evaluated through conferences, review of reports, and feedback from citizens served.Essential Duties and Tasks Plans and organizes classes, programs and activities for the Senior Center in areas such as health, fitness, crafts, medical, legal and general interest; seeks input from seniors and others familiar with senior needs and interests. Develops calendar of upcoming activities; publicizes events and activities in a variety of sources; posts announcements. Recruits volunteer speakers and instructor for classes and events. Evaluates programs and activities and looks for ways to meet needs and interests. Plans trips and events; makes arrangements; collects funds and signs up participants; cancels trips if needed; arranges transportation; accompanies participants on trips. Plans the on-site activities and programs; assesses new programs. Prepares materials and assists with set-up for varied events and activities. Maintains accurate records and reports of program activities. Performs administrative support functions; answers the phone and greets participants and the public as needed for coverage; Participates in set-up and in cleaning up and rearranging rooms after events and special programs. Additional job duties are but are not limited to preforms related duties as required.RequirementsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of planning and organizing events for a large number of people. Ability to plan and publicize programs and activities to meet a variety of needs and interests of senior citizens. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to establish and maintain proper working relationships with the general public, senior citizens, and other employees. Ability and special interest in the needs and desires of senior citizens. Ability to plan and present programs to assist senior citizens in personal health needs.Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of walking, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity monitor work site progress, work with data and figures, and maintain files and records. Minimum Requirements Graduate from high school and two years of experience in working with seniors: or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a part-time position working less than 20 hours per week. Closing date: Open until filled. Salary Description $15.00
