Salary InformationCompensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \nA starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment withpay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations \nNature of WorkThe reason this position exists is to\nperform specialized law enforcement work providing protection for civilian\naviation passengers, visitors, aircraft and facilities. Work involves\nspecialized security requirements of airport traffic direction, making arrests,\nand detaining persons suspected of violating local, state, or federal laws or\nregulations, participation in search procedures or implementation of bomb\nthreat plan, engaging in law enforcement activities including uniformed foot,\nvehicle, Segway, and bicycle patrol to ensure the integrity of the commercial\naviation environment, and participating in training sessions on airport\nsecurity related subjects. This position reports to Airport Police Corporal,\nSergeant, Lieutenant and/or the Airport Police Chief.\n\n\n\nMinimum QualificationsMust\nhave completed a police recruit academy approved by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards\nand Training (APOST) and be currently certified as a Police Officer.\n\n*Applicants must\nprovide necessary documentation indicating they are currently POST certified in\nlaw enforcement in order to be placed on the eligible register. \n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial RequirementsMust possess and maintain a current\nAlabama driver's license. Must be willing to work nights, shifts, and weekends.\nMust submit to a 5-year employment background check to satisfy Federal Aviation\nAdministration requirements. Must be\ncertified by a licensed physician to be in good health and physically fit for\nduty. Must be 21 years of age, have U.S.\ncitizenship or have applied for U.S. citizenship before applying for Airport\nPolice Officer, and must complete a 1 year probationary period.\nKind of ExaminationApplications are being accepted to fill current vacancies and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.
