The Schoolcraft College Police Department is a community-oriented agency, committed to delivering professional police services while providing a safe physical environment for the campus populations to engage in learning and community activities. Police Officers help to ensure this mission by providing for the safety and welfare of persons on the College campuses, protecting College assets, and seeking compliance with College policy.

Required Qualifications

* Must have already graduated from a Police Academy.

* Ability to be licensed as a police officer through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). *

* Ability to be licensed as a Medical First Responder (MFR).

* Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

* Physical ability necessary to perform the duties of police officer.

* Demonstrated ability to read and understand routine orders, write clear and comprehensive reports, and to articulate them.

* Working knowledge of state laws, city ordinances, familiarity with first aid, as well as fire prevention and control techniques.

* Ability to pass stringent physical exam, psychological evaluation, fingerprint check and extensive background investigation.

* Ability to take charge of a situation and take proper law enforcement action when necessary.

* Ability to train, qualify and carry various firearms, TASER, pepper spray and handcuffs.

* No dependency on alcohol or any other drug not prescribed by an attending physician.

* No felony convictions.

* Possession of valid operator's license.

* MCOLES license must be maintained through the duration of employment.

MFR license must be received within one year.

* Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

* Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

* Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Work Hours Day, Afternoon, Midnight, weekend, holiday shifts up to 29 hours per week, maximum Salary Pay Range is $19.33-$30.22 per hour
