The Conferences & Events Operations Specialist is a part-time, non-exempt position with responsibilities spanning all aspects of Conferences & Events, with occasional retail operations, including the campus Spirit Shop, Mailroom, and Copy Center. This position will work approximately 25 hours a week, working a flexible schedule, including some evenings (e.g., 5 pm-10 pm) and weekends.
The primary responsibilities will be front of the house Conference & Events Operations with emphasis on providing superior customer service to all clientele, including students, faculty, staff, guests on campus.
Other responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
* Back of the house operations for Conferences & Events, including set-up, tear-down, problem-solving, and administrative needs with an ability to lead a team of student workers in the absence of the Director and/or Assistant Director of Conferences, Events, & Retail Operations.
* Ensure successful operation of all internal and external conferences and events hosted by the College, including operation of basic AV equipment, equipment set-up and tear-down, and overall record-keeping for the operation.
* Oversee student conferences & events staff to ensure efficient and effective operation of all internal and external conferences & events hosted by Simpson College.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced and multifaceted environment with superior customer service, quick and appropriate decision-making with minimal direct supervision.
* Demonstrated knowledge related to the conferences & events industry and demonstrated knowledge or ability to learn retail sales, including ability to know product specifics and manage FOH stock levels to support sales growth.
* Ability to learn and/or operational knowledge of general small office copy equipment, including high volume copier, poster copier, cutter, laminator, folding machine, etc.
* Ability to learn and/or operational knowledge of mail machine and postage meter, with the ability to process both in-bound and out-bound USPS shipments without error.
* Demonstrate knowledge of proper cash-handling to appropriately secure departmental assets, including cash drawer and safe count reconciliation.
* Ability to work with, provide supervision to, and serve a diverse student population through adherence to the ideals of a campus community committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
* Demonstrate initiative in progression of tasks assigned or unassigned that improve the overall work atmosphere for colleagues and overall environment for internal and external customers.
* Ability to pass driving record background check and be able to operate College vehicles.
* Aability to walk and stand for extended periods of time with the ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs regularly, lift up to 50lbs on an occasional basis, and team lift up to 100lbs rarely.
