Delaware Valley University is accepting applications for a Custodian/Trash Run.Job Summary Drive the trash truck or department truck. Assist in cleaning and maintaining University assets per standards set forth by the Manager of Custodial Operations (approximately one hour per shift). This position is part-time working 16 hours every other weekend. The hours are from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday every other weekend. The person who holds this position must be flexible with hours, as University events may require time changes. Pay rate: $19.75 per hour Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Driving:
- Collects refuse and recyclable materials using automated or manual methods, dismounting and remounting trucks as needed.
- Notifies supervisor of accidents, breakdowns, or other issues.
- Operates machinery to hoist or compress refuse.
- Drive department van to scheduled locations, collecting items, and transporting them to their destinations.
- Loading and unloading items from vehicles.
- Adhering to assigned routes and following time schedules.
Cleaning:
- Disposal of trash
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas
- Sweep, mop, and buff floors
- Maintain aesthetic appearance of entrance to building
- Make sure custodial closet is fully stocked and organized
- Strip and wax floors as needed
- Report facility issues to Facility Maintenance Office
- Prep resident halls for each semester
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School Diploma with 1 year direct and 2 years indirect experience
- Valid state driver's license
- Clean driving record
The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to adhere to safety standards and guidelines.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks
- English proficiency is required
Physical demands and working conditions for this position include:
- Must be in sound physical condition
- Stockroom or warehouse

- High dust, dirt, and grease environment
- Requires extensive safety training
- Exposure to moving machinery

- Selected applicants will be responsible for providing the University with clearances appropriate to the position. These clearances include the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check. Additionally, upon acceptance of an offer of employment, this position will require a Motor Vehicle Report and a Physical and Lift Examination.
- All employment is provisional for 90 days.
- During this 90-day period, custodians are not eligible for benefits and cannot join the Teamsters Union.
