DescriptionThe part time Driver position is responsible for providing transportation services for students, faculty/staff, and visitors of Pace University to include scheduled university routes, disability transport, and special event accommodations. The position focuses on providing customer service and safe, efficient transport to customers with adherence to all university, state, federal laws, and regulations.Position Duties
- Drives a university-owned bus, providing safe and efficient transportation to the University community and its visitors.
- Transport passengers within a designated route or schedule in timely manner. Shuttle drivers must arrive to work on time, drive their vehicles following a set schedule or route that they are assigned including Charter routes.
- Prepare required paperwork such as specific run assignment sheet, passenger counts, accident/incident reports, and bus defect reports.
- Provide verbal and written reports concerning route, safety, schedule, passenger complaints, and operational problems or concerns.
- Prepare bus for operation by performing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections; this includes reviewing the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order. Monitor the ongoing condition of the vehicle during operation and report any malfunctions or needed repairs.
- Wear a Pace University uniform, provided by the university.
- Responsible for fueling bus and maintaining bus cleanliness.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Valid NYS CDL Driver's License with (P) endorsement, C or B class.
- Able to operate a bus efficiently and safely.
- Minimum of three years of experience in the operation of above-mentioned equipment (ref., description, duties, and responsibilities).
- Knowledge of practices used in the operation of a bus.
- Knowledge of state and local traffic regulations
- Knowledge of care and use of motor vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions employees.
Work Hours
- Evening and weekend hours required. Exact hours to be determined with supervisor; generally up to 20 hours per week.
