English Language Learner (EL) Tutor (Grant Funded)FLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Building PrincipalSupervises: NoneEmployment Terms: 10-Month Part-time PositionGrade: Hourly Position SummaryPosition is responsible for assisting the teaching staff with supporting English acquisition for non English speaking students.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Coordinate assigned teaching duties with the EL Teacher(s) and classroom/content teacher(s) to coordinate instructional efforts.Prepares lesson outline and plan for EL students and submits outline to the EL teacher(s) for review.Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as hands-on manipulatives, reading materials, and writing materials.Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques for reading and writing using WIDA standardsAssists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts by:Reading with children while reinforcing listening, speaking, reading & writingModeling strategies for reading and writingWriting the dictation given by young children Encouraging children to work independentlyAssists the EL Teacher(s) and classroom/content teacher(s) with routine tasks such as:Analyzing data and making instructional decisionsGathering resources and supplementary materialsSpecial eventsStudent assessmentsWIDA: ACCESS assessments (will require training for certification)Other DutiesAttends training workshops.Performs any other related duties as assigned by the school principal or other appropriate administrators.Qualifications, Education and ExperienceMust hold an associate's degree or the equivalent of two years of college, or passed the state highly qualified assessment.Knowledge of another language (speaking and writing) preferred, but not required.Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents.Possess general knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching.Physical RequirementsRequires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.Regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions.Frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, bending, lifting, distributing educational materials/items as needed and using technical equipment in area of assignment.Standard vision requirementsVocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in soundRequires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.Must be mobile enough to travel and monitor program aspects in all instructional settings within and without the division.Occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).Special RequirementsAll candidates must successfully undergo the following pre-employment screenings: Tuberculosis Screening Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation State Police Criminal History InvestigationEvaluationPerformance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board's policy manual.Equal Opportunity Employer StatementAs an Equal Opportunity Employer, Dinwiddie County Public Schools does not discriminate against applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, political affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, marital status, genetic information, disability or protected veteran status.
