Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
- Current registration as a professional nurse in the Commonwealth of PA.
- A baccalaureate degree preferably in nursing, or matriculation in a baccalaureate degree program with evidence of continuing academic preparation.
- Recent experience in the practice of nursing.
Essential Responsibilities:
- To educate student practical nurses through the process of integrating both nursing theory and related clinical experiences to become knowledgeable, productive, employable members of society.
Responsibilities:
- To become thoroughly familiar with staff, procedures, limitations, and specific requirements of all assigned areas of practice or observation.
- To serve as a mentor and resource person for the student practical nurse.
- To assist students to benefit from adequate experiences by providing effective directions, supervision, and constructive criticism in the clinical setting.
- To provide a complete tour and orientation to the clinical agency and specific departments as necessary before students do any patient care.
- To orient the student to the cooperating agencies, including policies, regulations, etc.
- To select appropriate student patient care assignments at their level of learning, within their scope of practice and to the extent of adequate available faculty supervision.
- To report to clinical or conference site at least 15 minutes before student scheduled time.
- To take attendance, make brief announcements, and provide specific instructions as necessary.
- To meet students at the clinical sites to review assignments, clarify directions, observe procedures, and provide appropriate support.
- To maintain the established system of records, including appropriate documentation.
- To participate in the clinical evaluation of students.
- To keep abreast of policies in affiliating institutions and advances in nursing education by participation in vocational organizations as well as in-service educational programs of cooperating institutions.
- To share the philosophy and objectives of the educational program with the personnel of the cooperating institutions as well as the medical and general community.
- To participate in the counseling of students including appropriate documentation.
- To be critical of personal performance and motivated to a schedule of continuing personal and professional growth.
- To follow clinical supervision guidelines as found in teacher handbook.

Method of Evaluation:
- Performance on the job will be evaluated each year by the Coordinator of the Practical Nursing Program.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Student practical nurses in clinical or theory settings.
Terms of Employment:
- As scheduled by the Practical Nursing Coordinator.
- Evening classes with weekend day clinicals.
- Salary as determined by the Schuylkill IU #29 School Board
