Job Summary **In addition to hourly pay, the Food Service Worker will receive $2.50 per hour in lieu of fringe pay.**The Food Service Worker is responsible for providing assistance with the basic functions of the Dietary department, Red Cedar Bistro and the Senior Meal Program to include the preparation of regular and special diet foods; providing assistance in preparing and distributing foods/meals while following standardized recipes, extensions and menus; and for operating, cleaning and sanitizing dishes, pots and pans, carts, tables and all other dietary equipment and utensils. Primary Responsibilities The following duties are primarily performed and which are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Assists in cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas, storage areas, and food service equipment.
  • Follows Serve Safe regulations in all food handling.
  • Logs and maintains temperature logs as directed.
  • Observes use by dates and first in, first out policies.
  • Assists in the production and delivery of food.
  • Assembles a variety of prepared foods and liquids for general and therapeutic diets.
  • Dishes various foods including fruit and vegetables, regular and special diet desserts, juices, etc...
  • Assists in putting away dry, frozen, and refrigerated food items when delivered.
  • Works in dish room unloading carts, feeding dish machine, putting clean dishes in proper storage area, hand washing utensils, pots and pans, large cooking equipment, cleaning and sanitizing food carts, tables and dining rooms, etc.
  • Mops floors; empties, cleans and relines garbage cans.
  • Answers telephones, takes and/or relays messages, as required.
  • Follows all infection control policies/procedures including proper handwashing and gloving.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for the Food Service Worker to possess.
  • Knowledge of departmental procedures used in the setup of trays, food portioning, identification of dietary codes.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations and requirements pertaining to food handling, sanitation and handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge concerning the operation of food equipment and dishwashers.
  • Knowledge of proper food storage and usage procedures.
  • Knowledge of storing food items and rotating of food items.
  • Skill in cleaning and sanitation of food areas, utensils, pots, pans, dispensers, food equipment, food service areas.
  • Skill in customer relations in dealing appropriately with and interacting with residents and staff.
  • Ability to learn and follow departmental instructions and routines in the set of trays, identifying special dietary tray requirements/codes, food portioning and serving routines of the department.
  • Ability to learn, apply and follow sanitation procedures and operations in accordance with food service operational procedures and rules.
  • Ability to operate dishwashers and all food equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships.
  • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and complete work within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS In order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Food Service Worker to possess.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and community members in written and verbal form.
  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Food Service Worker to possess.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Food Service Worker to possess.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records.
