Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds IDate Posted: 7/2/2024Location: Maintenance DepartmentTITLE: Part Time Groundskeeper QUALIFICATIONS: High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and education and/or experience in grounds work that is directly related to the job. REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to bend, push, pull, lift at least 50lbs. Must have a current valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must be able to operate power tools and lawn equipment. REPORTS TO: Grounds Crew Leader JOB GOAL: An employee in this class uses simple tools to maintain grounds including planting, cultivating, pruning and cutting plants, trees, shrubs, grass and flowers. Assignments are generally routine and repetitive in nature. Detailed instructions are given, and problems are referred to a supervisor. Work performance is inspected and evaluated based on grounds appearance and erros are quickly revelaed. The employee receives direct supervision. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Cuts lawns.
- Trims and edges.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.
- Removes damaged leaves, branches and twigs.
- Rakes and composts or disposes of leaves.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter.
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
- Spreads salt and sand on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
- Waters lawn, shrubs and flowers.
- Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts
- Sharpens tools, such as weed cutter, edging tools and shears.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of grounds keeping and horticultural practices.
- Working knowledge of the cultivation, pruning, spraying and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees.
- Ability to make minor repairs to lawn mowers, hose, rakes, pruners and sprayers.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use and sharpen gardening tools.
Terms of Employment: Part Time 25 hours a week/Temporary/Seasonal/At Will Employee/FLSA Non-Exempt Starting Salary and/or Grade: $15.00 per hour with no health insurance benefits Evaluations: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
