Job Description:
This is a part-time position. Job Summary: The Health and Wellness Coordinator provides individual and group prevention and intervention services to students to enhance their emotional well-being and improve their social and emotional functioning in their academic environment. The health and wellness coordinator assists school staff with addressing student mental health and behavioral concerns, provides positive behavioral, academic, and classroom supports, and consults with teachers, parents, and administrators as needed. Essential Functions and Duties:
  • Assess students for support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/ homicidal ideation, and similar issues.
  • Develop and implement behavior management plans that support student self -determination.
  • Provide group and individual interventions that address mental health symptoms, concerns, behaviors, and thought processes.
  • Facilitate groups for at-risk students on specific topics.
  • Assist students, families and teachers in addressing problems such as truancy, social withdrawal, problematic/ disruptive behaviors, and the effects of physical, emotional, or economic problems.
  • Coordinate and/or assist in crisis management and verbal de-escalation; assess for safety.
  • Advocate for student services and students' best interests.
  • Provide case management services including, but not limited to, referrals to community resources, collaboration with other professionals.
  • Engage students and family members in the home and community, conducting home visits when needed.
  • Participate and contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team of behavioral health professionals, school faculty and administrators.
  • Qualifications:
    • Qualified candidates will have a BA/BS in Psychology, Social Work or related field, with two or more years of experience working in the social service sector.
    • Qualified candidates must either possess a current prevention credentialing in the state of Ohio (OCPSA, OCPS, or OCPC) or be willing to pursue this credential within their first year in this role. For those not currently credentialed, Registered Applicant status within 90 days will be required.
    • School-based experience and experience facilitating groups is highly preferred.
    • Possession of a valid Ohio driver's license.
    Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Characteristics:
    • Must be an organized and dedicated team player, with knowledge of Red Oak policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of professional standards and practices in the field of social work, principles and practices relating to human behavior, child development, and family dynamics; case planning and management; socio-economic and socio-psychological factors involved in the dynamics of child abuse and neglect; counseling and interviewing techniques, including crisis intervention methods; laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of child welfare service programs;
    • Ability to develop goals and objectives;
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments;
    • Ability to prepare narrative and summary reports using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
    • Must ethically comply with, interpret, and explain laws, regulations, and professional practices governing mental health services and operations;
    • Ability to make independent decisions;
    • Ability to deal firmly and fairly with clients of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds;
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information; recognize and respect limits of authority and responsibility;
    • Ability to identify and analyze operational problems, and implement procedural and/or work method changes;
    • Capable of determining the appropriate course of action in emergency or stressful situations with a calm manner;
    • Able to utilize automated templates, word processing, and electronic mail;
    • Ability to conduct self with honesty and humility.
