This role ensures that all areas of the school, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas, are kept in excellent condition, supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and visitors. The Janitorial Staff member plays a critical role in creating a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the school's commitment to excellence.Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check as required by the school district.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning procedures, products, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management skills to complete assigned tasks within specified time frames.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner.
  • Basic knowledge of safety practices related to cleaning chemicals and equipment, including the proper handling of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of cleaning supplies and ensure proper labeling and storage of cleaning products according to TEA and OSHA guidelines.
Primary Purpose Summary:The Part-Time Janitorial Staff member will perform routine cleaning tasks in assigned areas of the school, ensuring that the facility is clean and well-maintained. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and sanitizing surfaces, as well as reporting any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, countertops, windowsills, and furniture.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins, replacing liners as needed.
  • Refill supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and other areas as necessary (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors as assigned.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for school events or activities as needed.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues, such as broken fixtures or hazardous conditions, to the Facilities Manager or designated staff.
  • Keep accurate records of cleaning supplies, including inventory management, and ensure proper storage of all cleaning products.
  • Maintain and update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all cleaning products used on campus, ensuring compliance with TEA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure that cleaning supplies and equipment are stored properly and securely.
  • Follow all safety protocols related to the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Participate in safety training and drills as required by the school and in accordance with TEA guidelines.
  • Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor while interacting with students, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform additional cleaning or maintenance tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
