Job Description:

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a part-time LPN for our Medical/Surgical Unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for administering nursing care to assigned patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. They are responsible for providing care in accordance with standards of nursing practice and will utilize appropriate guest relations and communication in their interactions with patients, families, other customers, and members of the healthcare team.

Essential Functions:

Admits and orients patients within 20 minutes after arrival in room. Provides orientation (e.g., call bell, bed controls) and gathers needed patient data (e.g., TPR, B/P, height/weight).

Utilizes appropriate skin preparation and electrode placement for patients who are placed on telemetry monitor.

Accurately administer medications and IV therapies in a safe and effective manner according to the patient's plan of care as directed by RN and reports any adverse effects.

Accounts for narcotics as per policy and documents all medications administered.

Recognizes errors and adverse reactions and reports them in a timely manner.

Functions according to the PA LPN Practice Act and competently delivers care that is consistent with the policies, procedures, and standards of CNMC.

Provides for patient safety and security needs by maintaining a clean and safe environment and placing call bell and personal items within patients reach at all times.

Assists patient to account for assistive devices (e.g., glasses, hearing aids, teeth) each shift, when transferred from one area to another and at discharge.

Uses appropriate safety practices (e.g., keep beds in low position, use side rails, bed alerts and prevention mode, ID patient with armband before treatment/nourishment).

Assures that appropriate skin care precautions and monitoring of vital signs is followed when hypo/hyperthermia machine or aqua pad is in use.

Participates in planning, provision and evaluation of patient care and assists with patient and family education.

Promptly answers patient call lights, for assigned and non-assigned patients, and fulfills patient request as soon as possible. Makes hourly rounds to anticipate/meet patient needs.

Demonstrates proficiency in locating, assembly, use and maintenance of needed equipment.

Maintains an orderly and therapeutic environment by keeping patient rooms and nurses' station clean, safe, uncluttered, and free of unneeded supplies/equipment and assists Housekeeping with discharge preparation of the unit.

Maintains current knowledge in area/s of present nursing practice, appropriate certification, and completion of competencies for assigned unit.

Attends all mandatory trainings and completes all required Life Talent education assignments within a timely manner. Keeps updated regarding Medical Center changes through meeting attendance and review of posted information; attends briefs, debriefs, and huddles.

Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection control.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Completion of Licensed Practical Nurse program.

Completion of monitoring class provided by CNMC.

Required Licenses:

Current practical nurse's license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MLS) from compact member states/territories required.

Required Skills:

Certifications:

BLS within 3 months of hire.

PALS preferred.

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Computer skills.
