POSITION SUMMARY: The Hourly Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing daily hands-on physical labor required to keep all parks, open spaces, and structures under BPCA jurisdiction in a clean, safe, and operable condition. The incumbent should be conscious of, sensitive to, and proactive towards making BPCA a model of sustainable practices. Job Status: Part time Department: Park Operations - Maintenance Salary Range: $20.51 per hourLocation: 75 Battery Place, NYC 10280Essential Duties: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Perform janitorial duties for parks, open spaces, and structures including bridges, by mobilizing the skill, physical capability, tools, and supplies needed to perform the following tasks:
  • Collect and dispose of all debris as a result of daily park usage, special events, or specific work
  • Manual and mechanical sweeping and washing down of hard surfaces
  • Graffiti and sticker removal
  • Clean and replace supplies for public restrooms
  • Clean and rake sand areas within playgrounds
  • Sweep, mop, strip, dust, vacuum, and clean; perform other related janitorial services
  • Unload maintenance deliveries
  • Use appropriate protective equipment such as face masks, protective gloves, hard hats, and goggles as needed in compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Able to safely and effectively operate the following types of tools and equipment without posing a risk to one's self, coworkers, and/or the public: Vehicles such as bicycles and electric trucks
  • Hand tools including shovels, brooms, dust pans, and weeding knives
  • Able to interact with the public as well as all staff at BPCA and Parks in a polite and friendly manner
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians in performing maintenance tasks such as but not limited to painting and paint removal by hand and/or mechanical means and basic painting •
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position as designated by supervisors or managers
  • Perform periodic kitchen and lunch room cleanup as assigned in rotation to all staff
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Previous maintenance experience is required
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license
SKILLS:
  • Must be able to work independently and exhibit good judgment
  • Must be an articulate communicator
  • Able to interact with all levels of staff
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical labor outdoors in all types of weather
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs.
