The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College seeks qualified candidates for a part-time Maintenance Technician. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, Maintenance Techs perform a variety of routine and preventative maintenance duties.
GENERAL DUTIES:
* Perform daily work orders/instructions as assigned by the Facilities Director or other supervisors/leads.
* Conduct basic carpentry maintenance, upkeep, installation, construction, and repair.
* Change light bulbs, fixtures, and other minor electrical tasks.
* Open clogged drains, fix leaks, and perform other simple plumbing jobs.
* Prep and paint buildings, rooms, equipment, etc.; clean and store painting equipment as needed.
* Assist in snow shoveling when needed.
* Mow lawn, remove weeds and brush, remove snow, and perform other grounds keeping duties as needed.
* Operate various maintenance and grounds equipment and vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, snow plows, tractors, mowers, cherry pickers, etc. per operating and safety guidelines.
* Assist with loading or unloading trucks and moving furniture or other equipment as needed.
* Maintains tools and maintenance equipment in working order and keep maintenance area in neat condition.
* Comply with all work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
* Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance upkeep and repair.
* Assist other maintenance workers and groundskeepers when necessary.
* Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma, GED, or specialized classes (such as vocational training), 3 to 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Must be a steady, reliable worker.
* Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams.
* Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after being given instructions.
* Must have general knowledge of simple equipment used in the building trades.
* Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record.
* Willing to use personal vehicle to perform maintenance tasks on campus.
* Willing to be available and work flexible hours for weather related and emergency needs (i.e. early call in, weekend call in and after hours call back).
* Willing to participate in special training classes as required.
* Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co- workers, campus community, and public.
* Specialized duties may require additional training, experience, and/or certifications.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* Typical maintenance shop working conditions and associated physical demands.
* Manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools and to paint.
* Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to perform repairs, use ladders, and perform various types of manual labor.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds often and 75 pounds occasionally.
* Vision (with correction) sufficient for reading, performing repairs, and painting.
