Position Description

A Democratic Member of Congress from Illinois seeks a Part-Time Office Assistant to join her Danville, IL office. This is a part-time, entry level position, working 18-22 hours a week.

Job Duties :

  • The Office Assistant will be responsible for welcoming visitors, helping constituents with federal agencies, coordinating scheduling, and organizing community events.
  • Ideal candidates will be exceptionally well-organized and attentive to detail, be able to adhere to established processes, have strong oral and written communication skills, excel at time management and prioritization, and be able to maintain good working relationships with the Congresswoman, staff, and constituents.

Preferences :

  • An even temperament, ability to deal effectively with a wide range of personalities, and creative problem-solving skills are essential.
  • A sense of humor and ties to the Second Congressional District are preferred.

Compensation

The annual salary range is $24,000 - $28,000 per year.

A qualified applicant must meet one of the following residency requirements within the continental United States for eligibility for a paid position with the U.S. House of Representatives:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B)
  • Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible
  • Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law)
