The Calais School is a state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs. The school serves students in grades K - 12+ with multiple learning disabilities. Our employees know firsthand all the benefits of working for The Calais School and how we foster a culture of collaboration, teamwork and the highest service and support to our students.The Instructional Paraprofessional is responsible for assisting certified teachers in the classroom, providing both academic and behavioral support to students and maintaining a supportive learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Execute the plan of academic instruction to groups and/or individuals as designated by the classroom teacher.
  • Contribute input to the establishment of each individual student's behavioral objectives.
  • Act as a substitute teacher when directed by the Principal.
  • Support and enforce school behavioral policies in structured and unstructured environments.
  • Perform in-school services, such as parent-teacher conferences, job coaching, field day, graduation, and lunch duty, under the classroom teacher's supervision.
  • Function in clerical areas including correcting student work, roll taking, token reporting, preparing materials, and preparing bulletin boards.
  • Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information.
  • Participate in assigned in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings to stay informed about best practices and new developments in special education.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to support the implementation of educational programs and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsEducation:• College, Associate's Degree or Higher• NJ DOE Substitute Teacher CertificationExperience:• Related work experience with demonstrated ability to work without constant supervision and an interest in special education.For more information about The Calais School, please visit www.thecalaisschool.org
