PRIMARY TASKS & MAJOR ACTIVITIESAssist special education teacher(s) with the care of individual students. Assist special education teacher(s) with preparation of instruction/learning resources and implementation of instructional strategies. Participate as an effective team member across settings in a manner that promotes positive collaboration for student success. Demonstrate respect for students, staff, and parents in all situations. Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to district employees, students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities. Fulfill the specific responsibilities as related to the specific assignments. Responsibilities will be determined based upon the unique needs of the students in the classroom to which the paraprofessional is assigned. Assist the classroom teacher, supervise students, perform routine and non-instructional tasks as assigned/needed. Non-instructional tasks will include supporting students with daily living skills - toileting, feeding, etc - and making sure students are able to access their school environment to the greatest extent possible. Follow each student's instructional plan as determined by the educational team. Must be willing to provide academic support in the classroom. Must be willing to work with students who pose some behavioral challenges
EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREDEducation: Must hold a substitute certificate through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. It will be the applicant's responsibility to obtain and maintain a substitute certificate. Skills: Ability to work with students who exhibit high educational needs/support and behavior intervention. Ability to work as a team member and follow specific directions as outlined by the supervising teacher and building/district administrator(s). Ability to change when change is needed. Experience: Training and/or experience related to: behavior intervention; various disabilities that interfere with learning in a school setting; and experience working in an educational (or similar) setting is a plus. Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
