Salary: $19.83 - $24.13 HourlyLocation : Santa Paula, CAJob Type: Part-TimeJob Number: 816OCTOBER2024Department: Parks & RecreationOpening Date: 10/02/2024Closing Date: 10/27/2024 11:59 PM PacificJob Description Under general supervision participates in a variety of duties involving graffiti, litter and weed abatement, and in the maintenance of parks and publicly owned grounds, playground equipment, structures and recreation areas.Knowledge of: Operations and standard operating procedures of a City wide landscape maintenance program; principles and practices of landscaping, landscape maintenance, tree trimming and basic facilities repair; methods, materials and practices used in the preparation of surfaces, priming and painting and mixing paint colors for use in covering graffiti; functions, characteristics, proper use of tools and equipment used in graffiti removal and painting; potential hazards, chemicals and disposal methods, and safety precautions associated with the graffiti removal work and basic recordkeeping techniques.Ability to:Follow and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective and working relations with others and members of the public; read and interpret maps, diagrams, technical and operational manuals; operate hand tools, power tools, and motor vehicles associated with the work; follow safety rules; safely use chemical solvents to remove graffiti and dispose of chemical byproducts. Physical and Environmental DemandsProlonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities; required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, climb, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, pick, pinch, ride and performsimilar body movements; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must have the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather; exposure to-potentially-hazardous chemicals, heat, and cold ; work around slippery or uneven surfaces; perform a variety of routine tasks in the care, cleaning and general maintenance of building, grounds and equipment; ability to work hours as assigned; exposure to-potentially-hazardous chemicals, heat, cold and inclement weather conditions; Incumbent may come into contact with cleaning and lubricating chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Examples of Duties PerformedThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Responds to requests of graffiti abatement; removes graffiti from various structures and properties by washing or utilizing water blasting, painting or other methods including, the use of graffiti removal chemicals.
  • Maintains accurate records of graffiti incidents and daily removal activities; prepares and maintains accurate records including, photographs and location of the scene of graffiti, reports, work orders, inventory records, and maintenance logs.
  • Responds to graffiti questions and concerns from the Community; inspects graffiti complaints.
  • Performs janitorial and general maintenance work at parks and grounds; event set-up.
  • Works special events and provides customer service for athletic field users. Ensures compliance with park rules; reports violations of laws to the police department / reports violations of park policy to the Parks Supervisor.
  • Performs regular inspections and maintenance of parks facilities and playground equipment including touch-up painting and other repair activity; replaces worn or damaged items.
  • Ensures the safety of various park facilities including playgrounds, soccer fields, buildings, and baseball fields; provides field safety checks and takes appropriate action to correct problems.
  • Performs housekeeping duties including but not limited to locking and unlocking restrooms, emptying out trash cans, and picking up litter; maintains grounds, restrooms, dugouts and bleacher areas clean.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation & Experience: Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.License and Certificates: A valid class C California driver's license.Retirement: The City does not participate in Social Security; in lieu of social security, part-time employees, not currently CalPERS members, are enrolled in the City's part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees 457 Deferred Compensation retirement plan. If you are a CalPERS member please notify Human Resources at the time you are hired and your retirement contributions will be handled in accordance with the City's CalPERS contract.Other Benefits: Part-time employees are not eligible for employee fringe benefits, including paid vacation, or holidays. However, pursuant to the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 (AB1522), effective July 1, 2015,employees who work a minimum of 30 days or more in one year shall accrue one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked up to 3 days or 24 hours during a 12-month period. You will not be eligible to use accrued sick time until the 90th day of employment and you will only be allowed to carry over up to a cap of 48 hours, and limited to using no more than 24 hours per calendar year.
