The Pre-school Bus Monitor will supervise children on their bus route, additionally, as a good will ambassador for CHSofNJ Head Start Program; the Bus Monitor greets parents and children during a bus route. Bus Monitor must be aware of and follow Federal regulations and agency protocols while maintaining a positive attitude and a focus on safety and comfortable riding environment.

25 Hours per Week
Hours: 07:30AM 9:30AM and 02:30PM 05:30PM
Salary: $16.58 Per Hour
Signing Bonus: $2,000.00
- Understand safety procedures for children boarding and exiting the vehicle
- Trained in the appropriate installation and use of Child Safety Restraint Systems (CSRS)
- Safety procedures for the emergency evacuation of a vehicle
- Knowledge of Agency procedures for child pick-up and release
- Assist the Bus Driver with a pre- and post-trip vehicle check
- Trained in emergency response procedures
- Operation and maintenance of special equipment on the bus
- Bus Monitors interact with children throughout their time on the bus. It is through close observation and communication that children are provided with a positive experience and have safe riding practices reinforced while riding the bus.
- Bus Monitors need to collaborate with the Bus Driver in teaching children the correct safety procedures for boarding and exiting a bus as well as the danger zones around the vehicle.
- Bus Monitors are highly encouraged to lead children in singing, telling stories, playing visual games, or doing quiet activities throughout a bus route. By working with teachers, Bus Monitors can extend and reinforce classroom learning.
- Bus Monitors participate in professional development along with regular Head Start staff to improve their job skills.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience Requirements: Prior experience working with preschool aged children
