Job Summary:The Furman University Libraries seek a person to help patrons at the Research Assistance Desk during the evening. Position is up to 20 hours per week Sunday - Wednesday 4-9 or 5-10PM during the spring semester, January-May 2025. Additional hours may be available during peak periods or due to the scheduled absences of other employees.
Job Description:Responsibilities:Staff Research Assistance Desk four evenings a week (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday)
- Helps patrons in person at the Research Assistance Desk
- Answers research questions on the phone and through online chat
- Records data regarding interactions
- Refers questions to library faculty as needed
Trains in Circulation policies and procedures to cover for supervisor in that area during mid-evening breakCommunicates with student assistants during shift changes
Minimum Qualifications:- Knowledge of library operations
- Comfortable using desktop computer, including multiple browsers and Microsoft Word.
- Comfort working with public, customer service orientation
Ability to:- Work cooperatively and tactfully with co-workers, faculty, staff, patrons, and students.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Effectively communicate policies, procedure, requests and information to colleagues, patrons, students, and faculty, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience research assistance in an academic library
- MLIS or MLS degree, or library-related graduate studies
- Experience with SpringShare products (LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibChat, etc.)
