Enforces all applicable regulations, laws, and ordinances and provides information pertaining to park use, safety requirements and points of interest. Exercises no supervision Must hold an Active Texas Peace Officer License in good standings and attend Bexar County Parks training after selection Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrols and guards pavilions, kitchens, Civic Centers or assigned areas, in order to provide security, enforce regulations and laws, maintain order, and arrest violators
- Patrols designated park areas and events, on foot or in a vehicle
- Observes park patrons, clients and guests to detect violators of regulations and laws, issues citations, and makes arrests, when necessary investigates illegal or suspicious activities
- When executing an arrest, verifies that the proper legal charges have been made against alleged violators
- Occasionally, assists with executing arrest warrants, locating and taking persons into custody
- Records daily activities, and submits logs and other related reports and paperwork to appropriate authorities
- When appropriate, places people in protective custody
- Coordinates with other law enforcement entities as situations require or are needed
- Takes control of accident scenes to maintain traffic flow, to assist accident victims, and to investigate causes
- Respond to citizens calls involving vehicle accidents, crimes, neighborhood disturbances, fire and other citizen requests and obtain witness statements within the parks and where needed
- Issues citations, serves warrants of arrest, apprehends suspects and arrests persons charged with felonies and misdemeanors
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate
- Basic Peace Officer Certificate from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
- Good knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws, codes and statutes
- Ability to effectively respond to citizen inquires and complaints
- Skill in communicating effectively both in writing and in person
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Elected/Appointed Officials, Department/Division Heads, County employees, government agencies and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
- Must attend Bexar County Parks training
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance, personal injury insurance and a personal vehicle
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work shift-work and work more than 40 hours during a workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Depending on work assignment, working conditions are either in an office environment or in the field with occasional exposure to unusual elements, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes and unpleasant odors. Working conditions also include exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- Must meet all standards for physical fitness of the agency that carries the individual's commission
- Must be able to react professionally and safely under potential or actual volatile conditions
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 20 lbs. constantly with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing
- Hand and eye coordination
- Manual dexterity necessary to operate a two-way radio, cellular phone, handgun, handcuffs, diagram enlarger, visual imager, computer keyboard and document disposal machine
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and handling to perform essential functions
