Job DescriptionThe Dauphin County Department of Public Safety is currently accepting applications for a part-time, varied shiftposition of Public Safety Officer in the Office of Safety and Security. Salary is commensurate with experience and applicants with current Act 235 certification are eligible for higher hourly rate.

- 4, 8, and 10-hour shifts available (7am-5pm, 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am, 10am-2pm).

- Shift differential pay includes:
- Weekend Premium Pay (SAT & SUN): Additional $1.00 per hour
- 15:00-23:00 (3PM-11PM): Additional $0.75 per hour
- 23:00-07:00 (11PM-7AM): Additional $1.00 per hour
- SAT & SUN (11PM-7AM): Additional $2 per hour
An employee in this position will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of buildings and grounds for County employees and the general public. Duties include but are not limited to performing the following:
- Operates authorized security devices and equipment in accordance with established policy and procedure.
- Screens building visitors for weapons prior to entry using electronic devices; secures weapons as necessary.
- Directs building visitors to appropriate buildings, departments and/or individuals.
- Monitors buildings to ensure the safety and security of buildings, visitors, and staff.
- Patrols County parks to ensure the safety and security of parks, visitors and staff.
- Makes rounds routinely both inside and outside of facilities.
- Summons and assists emergency services when necessary.
- Documents and investigates events observed or reported and makes appropriate notifications within and outside County government.
- Maintains required logs, reports, and forms as necessary; completes required reports.
- Attends mandated instruction classes; establishes and maintains associated certifications.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements:Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program. At least one (1) year of security experience is preferred but not necessary. Other Requirements: Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age by the date of hire. Favorable criminal background check. Applicant must pass a preemployment drug screening and physical.
