Salary: $13.85 Hourly Location : Deer Park, TX Job Type: Support Job Number: 00978 Department: Police Department Division: Animal Shelter Opening Date: 11/16/2023 GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs routine animal care and related duties at the City's Humane Shelter. The work involves taking complaints and dispatching animal control officers, cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, and performing related shelter duties. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Humane Shelter Supervisor ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Takes complaints and relays information to animal control officers.
  • Performs shelter duties including taking reports from the public, receiving animals brought into the shelter, preparing adoption paperwork and reclaiming animals to their owners.
  • Making sure animals are fed and have water.
  • Updates, edits and corrects data files on the animals in the kennel.
  • Maintains proper inventory levels of cleaning and other supplies. Informs supervisor when reordering is necessary.
  • Stocking inventory of food, cat litter, cleaning supplies, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Facility attendant must have knowledge of basic methods and procedures of kennel cleaning. Must have basic computer skills, i.e. data entry into shelter data base. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent; An equivalent combination of education and/or experience NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have reasonable skill level in mathematics. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with the public that utilizes the facility. Ability to make decisions with little or no assistance based on the guideline within departmental policy. Ability to understand and relate facts. Ability to assume responsibility and authority within the guideline of departmental policy. Ability to calculate and measure quantities of food per animal.
