Duties include: performing minor mechanical work; cleaning and fueling transit vehicles; and providing support to the transit shop operations. Requirements:
  • Possess or obtain (within 30 days of hire) a valid driver's license.
  • Possess or obtain (within 90 days of hire) and maintain a Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions and P endorsement
    • We will provide the successful candidate with training to obtain the required license and endorsements, if needed.
  • Ability to perform minor mechanical work
Typical Schedule: 16 hours per week, Mondays from 4:00 p.m. to midnight and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Application Deadline: November 3, 2024 Interviews expected to take place Friday, November 8, 2024. JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION SCOPE Under general supervision, this position cleans and fuels the transit buses and vehicles, performs minor mechanical work to service the transit vehicles, and provides support to the transit shop operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Open and lock up buildings. Start buses and provide base radio support. Perform minor vehicle service including fueling the vehicles, checking the tire pressure and fluid levels, and washing and parking the vehicles. Remove fareboxes and perform interior and exterior cleaning. Perform minor mechanical work and assist bus mechanics. Clean shop and storage areas. Go out on road calls and equipment change-offs. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs related duties as required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS Must possess or obtain (within 90 days of hire) and maintain a valid Class B CDL, with passenger ( P ) endorsement and no air brake restrictions. Ability to perform minor mechanical work is required. SKILLS/ABILITIES Maintains prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance. Must be able to take direction and work well with others. Must be able to concentrate and perform accurately. Must be able to react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Must be able to back-up fellow co-workers. SUPERVISION/DIRECTION RECEIVED Transit Supervisor, Transit Manager, Community Services Director SUPERVISION/DIRECTION EXERCISED None WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is classified at the Very Heavy level, as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. Job consists of a combination of walking, stooping/bending, twisting, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing, and handling. There will be exposure to heat, cold, wet, slippery and high conditions. In addition, there will be exposure to dust, noise and chemicals. Lift on occasion greater than 100 lbs., frequently greater than 50 lbs., &/or constantly greater than 20 lbs. CITY OF EAU CLAIRE FRINGE BENEFITS TRANSIT PART-TIME BUS OPERATORS AND PART-TIME SHOP PERSONNEL - LOCAL 1310 - (Effective January 1, 2024) Benefits and leaves are listed below as defined in the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Eau Claire and the Amalgamated Transit Local 1310 union. Other benefits and leaves not contained within can be found in the collective bargaining agreement. Benefits listed are for full-time employees. Part-time employee benefits are prorated based on the budgeted hours of the position with the exception of vacation, which is prorated based on compensated straight time hours. BENEFITS AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY UPON EMPLOYMENT Paid Holidays New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Floating Holidays Five floating holidays to be taken in full day increments at the employee's discretion with supervisory approval. Employees hired January 1 - June 30 are entitled to four floating holidays during the first year of hire. Employees hired July 1 - December 31 are entitled to two floating holidays during the first year. Employees terminating prior to July 1 are entitled to two floating holidays. Floating holidays not used within the calendar year will be forfeited. Sick Leave Part-time bus operators are entitled to sick leave accumulation of four hours per month up to 60 days and part-time shop personnel are entitled to sick leave accumulation of 3.2 hours per month up to 48 days. Wisconsin Retirement System As required by state law, the City and the employee are each required to contribute into the Wisconsin Retirement System. The total contribution is 13.8% of earnings, with the City and the employee each contributing 6.9%. Deferred Compensation Plans Available participation in a 457 retirement savings plan offered by the City. Contributions cannot exceed the annual maximum limit allowed by the IRS. Roth Plans Available participation in the Roth 457 and Roth IRA retirement accounts offered by the City. Contributions cannot exceed the annual maximum limit allowed by the IRS. Employee Assistance Program Available to all employees and their families. BENEFITS AVAILABLE THE FIRST OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING 30 DAYS OF SUCCESSFUL CITY SERVICE Life Insurance Available participation in the Basic, Supplemental, Additional, and Spouse and Dependent life insurance program. The employee is responsible for the monthly premium amount. The amount of insurance is dependent upon the annual salary of the employee. BENEFITS AVAILABLE THE FIRST OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING 60 DAYS OF SUCCESSFUL CITY SERVICE Active Employee Health Insurance The City will pay up to 50% of the rate paid for full-time employees of the lowest offered family policy premium towards either a single, limited family, or family policy with the employee paying at least 15%. Deferred Compensation in Lieu of Health Insurance Optional deferred compensation employer contribution of $75.00 per month ($34.62 per pay period) for an employee with no employer-paid health insurance. Dental Insurance Employee pays 100% of the monthly premium. Vision Insurance Employee pays 100% of the monthly premium. BENEFITS AVAILABLE THE FIRST OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING SIX MONTHS OF SUCCESSFUL CITY SERVICE Long-Term Disability Insurance Employee is responsible for the monthly premium amount. Employees working 30 hours per week or more are eligible. Flexible Spending Optional participation in a health care and/or dependent care Section 125 pre-tax reimbursement account, subject to IRS regulations. ADDITIONAL BENEFITS Retiree Health Insurance For those retirees who retire after December 31, 2019, the City shall contribute 47.5% of the single premium payment for retired employees between the ages of 60 and the earliest age an employee becomes eligible for Medicare, which in any event shall not exceed 5 years, who elect to continue coverage under one of the plans offered employees. Retirement is defined as receiving WRS benefits. Other Personal Work Equipment Part-time employees, following successful completion of their probationary period, inasmuch as they are expected to maintain appropriate work footwear, clothing, gloves, headwear, belts, support braces, and other personal work clothing and equipment, shall receive a stipend of $100.00 per year paid in December for the purchase of such equipment. VACATION SCHEDULE All employees who have rendered one year of service and less than five years of service shall receive two weeks paid vacation. All employees who have rendered five years of service and less than 11 years of service shall receive three weeks paid vacation. All employees who have rendered 11 years of service and less than 17 years of service shall receive four weeks paid vacation.
