Job Description:
Tubman is seeking shelter advocates to join a dynamic and collaborative team to provide welcoming, supportive, and affirming care to all shelter residents, callers to our 24/7 resource line, and walk-in clients.This shift is Part time weekend from 3pm-11:30pm Sat/Sun and can be everyweekend OR every other weekend.Why work for Tubman?Tubman's vision represents the future we want for our clients and the wider community; thriving people, healthy relationships, and peaceful communities.   • Create safe and supportive relationships with clients.
  • Provide advocacy and 1:1 support to clients in the shelter, connecting them to internal and external resources.
  • Support clients in setting and achieving client-led goals.
  • Complete client intakes and assessments.
  • Provides advocacy and support to 24/7 resource line callers and walk-in clients.
  • Promotes safety and security in the shelter environment through administration of crisis support services, security maintenance, shelter floor rounds, and client de-escalation.
  • Complete shelter operational support tasks, for example, client intake/exit duties, meal-time support, client-assistance services, ordering cabs, giving out hygiene items, etc., room checks, and cleaning.
  • Provide assistance and support to the children and youth in the program.
  • Facilitate groups and activities for shelter clients as needed.
  • Provide childcare and transportation as needed.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, data entry, case notes, and administrative work related to client services.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and developing new staff, interns, and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of domestic violence-related issues and systems.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with victims/survivors of trauma.
  • Ability to welcome and engage a diverse group of stakeholders with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to set and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Understand and work from the agency's set of values and philosophical approaches; including harms-reduction/housing first, trauma-informed care, violence as a learned behavior, client-centered and led work, etc.
  • Ability to pass a DHS fingerprint criminal background study as required by program licensing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in implementing interventions to support complex trauma.
  • Experience in effectively managing crisis situations.
  • Restorative justice experience.
Compensation & BenefitsThe salary for the position is $21 per hour, with an additional $2/hour for any hours worked on overnights and weekends.
