Job Summary: The Patient Advocate is a bilingual staff member with responsibilities for providing medical/dental/pharmacy interpretation and case management for patients whose primary language is Spanish and who need interpretation to communicate with English speaking staff members. He/She must deliver quality and compassionate care to all. May also be assigned to special projects and must demonstrate a sincere dedication and loyalty to the mission, vision and core values of BRMC. The Patient Advocate is headquartered in the BRMC main site but may be required to work at other locations as needed.Essential Duties:* Interpretation:* In-person interpretation to facilitate communications with Spanish speaking patients* Follow-up communications as appropriate for patients for whom interpretation is provided* Interpret for telephone communications as necessary and appropriate* Translate appropriate English documents into Spanish for The Center* Case Management and Patient Advocacy:* Make connections for patients with appropriate area human service organizations as needed* Maintain relationships and communication with providers of transportation* Keep a schedule of patients with transportation needs and note in patient appointment record that transportation is being provided* Providing coordination and referral services for patients to outside resources for Spanish speaking patients* Communicate with the transportation coordinator to arrange transportation to and from health care appointments for approved sliding scale patients* Serves as back up for Patient Services positions as needed. Cross-trained and readily available to perform the essential duties of position.* Serve as back up for Transportation Coordinator (including ability to provide transportation when interpretation schedule allows).* Participate on committees as appropriate to facilitate communication to and from department staff and report on operations and improvement cycles.* Maintain Certified Application Counselor status and assist patients as available during open enrollment.* Attend staff meetings and trainings and participate in safety drills as required.
