**Description:**

The Staffing Center offers float opportunities that go to any and all inpatient units throughout the hospital. You could float to Mother/Baby, Heart & Kidney, General Med-Surg, Psych Med Unit, Critical Care, Neuro Trauma, Oncology & Bariatric Surgery and Senior Care units. The Staffing Center has a variety of lengths of shifts including 4-, 8-, or 1and2-hour shifts instead of only the standard 12-hour shifts on the other units. There is a monthly minimum requirement of 8-12 hours per week and at least 16 weekend hours a month that must be met to remain actively employed.

**Position Summary:**

Patient Care Assistant, PCA works in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care under the direction of a RN. A Patient Care Assistant, PCA is expected to assist the patient in maintaining good hygiene, activities of daily living and to support quality of patient care.

**What Patient Care Assistant, PCA** **will do:**

+ Respond to patient call lights for assistance or by rounding

+ Obtaining vital signs from patient

+ Provide or assist patients with personal hygiene including showers, oral hygiene and dressing/undressing

+ Transports patients as needed for procedures, transfers or discharge

+ Maintains a clean and uncluttered environment in patient rooms

**What Patient Care Assistant, PCA** **will need:**

+ High School diploma or equivalent

+ One of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, 6 months experience as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician in an acute care setting, completion of 1 clinical semester in nursing school, or completion of the MHSM PCA training program upon hire.

+ BCLS certification obtained within one week of hire.

+ Well developed communication skills, both written and oral

+ Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing divers perspectives

+ Articulates and demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of the organization
