Patient Care Associate | Full Time | Days Singing River Health System Hospital - Ocean Springs | Full-Time | 7AM-7PM | 3109 Bienville Blvd Ocean Springs, Mississippi, 39564 United States Position Overview The Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (i.e. personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines; a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN; and under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or LPN. The plan of care will utilize the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control as well as the Singing River Health System Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees. Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of Nurse Assistant/Aide program preferred. Certification/s Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification recognized by the State of Mississippi Department of Health preferred. (CNA Certification required upon hire for SNF unit) Must complete and BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training. Experience Equivalent related work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program required. Physical Demands Work requires physical exertion: Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs and uses many physical motions in performing day-today activities. Auditory acuity to hear verbal communication and gather data using auscultory skills. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate effectively per scheduled shift and effectively manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. Must have high energy level and be capable of handling high pressure situations. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation. Must demonstrate ability to assist patients in transferring/ambulation; push-pull patients in wheelchair; turn/position bed-bound patients. Mental Demands Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of acute and chronically ill patients. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. He/She must demonstrate the ability to record observations and activities, to follow oral and written directions/instructions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress level during scheduled shift associated with care of acute patient/SO, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers. Special Demands Must be able to utilize the computer to complete responsibilities - including proficiency in utilizing the electronic medical record.
