Patient Care Associate II, Clinical Decision UnitFull Time DayPOSITION SUMMARY:Provides technical support to physicians and nurses. Assists professional staff by participating in direct and indirect patient care to include performing EKGs, finger stick glucose, phlebotomy, wound care, obtaining and recording vital signs, and performing materials management and maintenance as directed by the professional staff and in accordance with approved policies and procedures. Applies a variety of orthopedic splints, applies post suture and superficial abrasion dressings, and assists patients with correct crutch fitting.EDUCATION:High school diploma or equivalent. Maintains current CPR card/certification. Must meet one of the following requirements: Recent experience in a comparable role in a hospital settingValid current and active certification from a credentialing organization approved by Valley, including American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency testing (NCCT), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Certification Medical Association (NCMA) in one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, NJ State Certified Home Health Aide, or EMTCurrent and enrolled nursing student who has completed and passed a Fundamentals of Nursing courseIn lieu of experience, successfully complete 8-week PCA Fundamentals Program offered by Valley and obtain your BLS certification through American Heart Association within 90 Days of employment.EXPERIENCE:Previous experience in performing phlebotomy/EKG and basic emergency care, operating emergency room equipment, and utilizing a variety of software applications strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.SPECIAL SKILLS:Qualifications may vary depending on assigned area. Must be able to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods, handle frequent interruptions, and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team, staff, and co-workers. Ability to set priorities, solve problems, and respond quickly to emergency requests.
