Job DescriptionFUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Perform or assist with all activities within the scope of a Nurse Aide and /or Medical/Surgical Technician Job Description.
- Inform patients on proper preparation for various medical testing.
- Prepare patient for examination and assist medical provider during examination by providing necessary supplies/equipment.
- Prepare examining room for examination including cleaning of instruments and equipment.
- Instructs patients on how to obtain specimens for laboratory testing and perform basic specimen screening /testing through dipstick and hemoccult.
- Prepare collected specimens for pick-up by labeling and preparing required form(s); pick up lab results.
- Checks vital signs weigh and measure patients, obtain specimens and record findings on patient's medical record.
- Performs vision and hearing testing, simple urinalysis and urine pregnancy testing.
- Perform simple first aide, such as simple dry dressing changes.
- Obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing by performing venipuncture and /or finger stick for blood glucose testing.
- Operate electrocardiograph equipment to record wave tracing of electrical currents of the heart.
- Conduct interview of client to obtain routine personal and demographic information.
- Administer heart saver procedures.
- Report observations of patient to nursing/medical staff caring for patient to ensure professional assessment.
- Act as a liaison between patients and Medial /Nursing staff such as answer routine inquiries in person or via telephone.
- Participate in informing patients and their families of health care services and achieving healthful, safe living.
- Act as a greeter and direct and escort patients to other hospital departments and /or facilities, as needed.
- Maintain, complete, process and file patient's chart, appropriate forms and documents
- Maintain inventory of the unit's equipment stock and supplies.
- Work effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assist in the orientation of new PCA, MST, or NA
- Schedule referrals, appointment through manual and /or automated systems.
- Opens and Closes visits.
- Verifies patient's information e.g. Demographics, Health Insurance Status.
- Perform all other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications1. High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and2. Successful completion of training courses in the performance of phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG), or completion of a training program or programs that include the performance of phlebotomy and EKG, such as Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician training programs, a Patient Care training program, or a Medical Assistant training program; and3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).NYC Health and Hospitals offers a competitive benefits package that includes:
