Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under direct supervision of the Registered Professional nurse and other licensed nurse, performs activities and procedures of a non-professional nature direct/indirect care of patients and participates as a member of a treatment, nursing, medical, health care team in implementing appropriate regimens. Performs a variety of clerical duties related to work RESPONSIBILITIES: • Gives a verbal report of patient care rendered to the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.Report should include, but is not limited to vital signs, specimen collected, and amount of food eaten by child and child's activities. • Prepares patients/newborns for transport. Transports and accompanies patients • Supports and encourages breastfeeding • Encourages bonding between mother and infant • Assist with patient care which may include but not limited to vital signs, peri-care, breast-feeding, measurement of intake and output, basic maternal and newborn care • Promptly removes all material used by prior patient upon discharge, such as suction equipment, Oz tubing, nebulizer tubing, etc. Informs Head Nurse/Nurse in charge of rooms needing to be cleaned. • Prepares admission room, makes clean bed/cribs and places needed supplies such as basin, pitcher, soap, etc. at bedside. • Prepares isolation rooms, which includes stocking of cabinets and isolation carts/tables with appropriate masks, gloves, gowns and plastic bags. • Divides all supplies as sterile and non-sterile, and fluids. • Maintains a safe and clean treatment room with well-stocked supplies and functioning equipment. • Checks all supplies for expiration dates, including surgical supplies. • Maintains examination room in a clean and orderly stateReports significant conditions which could affect patient's safety and well-being in regards to child abuse, cultural beliefs, and confidentially to the Head Nurse or nurse in charge. • Ensures a safe and secure environment free of hazards to reduce the risk of injury to all customers. (Patients, visitors and staff.) • Explains, involves and instructs patients/families concerning the therapeutic regimen and environment of care. • Under the supervision of the primary nurse will distribute milk, formula, pampers and other patient care items.Enter vital signs on the computer and other patient related data as assigned • Maintains a level of cultural competence. Minimum Qualifications 1. High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and 3. Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation. Special Note: In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
