The Opportunity: Patient Care Associate - Pediatric ICU

About the Patient Care Associate (PCA) Role in the PICU Dept.

This unit is a multidisciplinary 14 bed Intensive Care Unit for children from birth to the age of 19. Families are valued from the moment they enter the unit, and the nursing staff is artful at assessing their needs and establishing an individualized plan to meet them. As the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the MGB Network, this unit serves a culturally and clinically diverse, high acuity patient population from a wide catchment area.

Skills

Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment. PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.

* Required: Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care.

* Preferred: Licensed, certified or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program, at the time of hire, OR

* Candidate enrolled in a Nursing, Pre-Med, PA undergraduate program, with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed, at time of hire.
