3/12 hour shifts per week. 72 hours. one major and one minor holiday, weekend rotation. One weekend per month.JOB SUMMARY: The Patient Care Tech performs patient care and unit functions under the direction of a registered nurse as a part of the health care team. Responsible for communicating completed assigned tasks to the registered nurse. Responsible for following established organization and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines of the hospital. Supports the philosophy and goals of OSS Orthopaedic Hospital. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:Education: High School diploma or GED required.Qualifications: CPR certification required. Certification as a Nursing Assistant preferred. Must be able to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources. Must be able to plan and organize work. Must have basic computer skills. Must have professional and effective communication skills and be able to promote effective communication at all levels. Level I:o Previous experience in patient care preferred. Level II:o Preferred experience in Orthopedics or the Acute Care setting. Previous experience in patient care required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs vital signs and patient care on assigned group of patients. Collects and documents patient care data and reports abnormalities to RN. Assumes responsibility and accountability for care provided and tasks assigned. Manages patient assignments effectively. Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices. Maintains confidentiality regarding patients and all aspects of care. Participates in educational activities, unit meetings, and quality initiatives. Maintains skills as demonstrated through competency testing. Level II:o May train and/or mentor new staff in the department.o May assist in collecting and completing Unit-specific Performance Indicator (PI) work. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:No direct reports.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Must be proficient in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, vendors, and the general public.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Moderate physical effort when working in patient care environment consisting of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping. Moderate sitting and keyboarding when performing administrative responsibilities. Fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds.
