UPMC Hamot is hiring a Nursing Assistant to join the team on 3 South Observation Acute Care Unit!If you're passionate about patient care and looking for a career that offers great benefits and plenty of room for growth, we invite you to explore this opportunity today!This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and night shifts.Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.Responsibilities:Provides patient care, assists with procedures and activities of daily living, and supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.Performs core nursing assistant responsibilities, including vital signs, specimen collection, blood glucose monitoring, I&O, and more, plus at least four additional tasks like phlebotomy, EKG, or IV catheter removal.Reports equipment malfunctions, maintains effective communication, and establishes respectful relationships within the team.Contributes to unit activities such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.Receives feedback constructively, identifies learning needs, and seeks to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.Communicates effectively with healthcare team members and demonstrates cultural competence and professionalism.Follows all safety and patient care policies and procedures, documenting in medical records as required.Assists in patient and family education under RN direction, including applying and removing restraints per protocol.Supports department projects, quality initiatives, and handles clerical functions as needed.Performs advanced skills like phlebotomy, Foley catheter removal, EKG, and NG tube management based on department needs.Adheres to competencies and behaviors, and performs additional duties as assigned.High school diploma or equivalent required.Must have one of the following: - 1 year of general healthcare experience. - 6 months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion. - Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with at least one completed clinical rotation. - Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.Successful completion of basic information system training. Microcomputer experience preferred.Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.EMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program, preferred.Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.
