Iowa Ortho is looking for a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our team in our new surgery center opening in Grimes, November 2024! Our PCT's serve as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Nursing Assistants/Patient Care Assistants including assisting in the delivery of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.   • Assists in the application of durable medical equipment (i.e., size/fit/application).
  • Gathers and stock needed medical supplies for patient care areas from bulk storage.
  • Transports patients, obtains vital signs and prepares IV bags.
  • Answers incoming phone calls to the department.
  • Cleans patient care areas including sterilization of surgical instrumentation.
  • Handles linen, trash and biohazard waste.
  • Assists in the turnover of operating rooms. Open sterile supplies in anticipation of next surgical case.
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels in blanket warmer and fluid warmer.
  • Assists inventory control tech as needed.
  • Checks outdates monthly on all inventory in area(s) of concern.
  • Delivers specimens to appropriate lab/department.
  • Maintains and promotes a safe environment.
  • Picks doctor preference cards and pulls supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Pulls suture.
  • Pulls supplies according to preference card.
  • Orders instruments from Mercy as needed.
  • Maintains supply cart profiles at optimal levels at all times. Adjusts as usage dictates so carts reflect actual need.
  • Keeps supply carts, drawers, and bins correctly labeled.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to regularly attend work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and experience required.
  • Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant program. .
  • Maintains BLS qualification.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Orthopedic experience preferred.
