This position will split their time doing both the Patient Care Tech and Unit Secretary duties.
Family Birthing Suites is a 15-bed unit that provides care to mothers, newborns and gynecological surgical patients. Private LDRP (Labor-Deliver-Recover-Postpartum) suites and a four-bed, Level 2 NICU are located within the department. A fully equipped Cesarean Surgical Suite is also maintained within the unit.
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of care and comfort for patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT will report and record observations and contribute to the efficient functionality of the department.
The Unit Secretary acts as the communication hub of the department. This is the first impression and line of communication with the patients, the providers, and referral sources. This position helps to maintain communication with outside sources, including but not limited to referring providers and other hospital departments. This individual may assist with data collection and verification as requested and assigned, including charge verification, departmental data collection, and reporting to other hospital departments. The Unit Secretary supports the medical records for patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Supply management and requisitioning is a key function in this role. Additionally, the Unit Secretary supports the filing of birth certificates with the state of Iowa for all babies born at UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital.

Minimum Requirements

Education:
High school diploma/GED or currently & actively working towards completion of diploma/GED
· Successful completion of Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) program with active registration on Iowa Direct Care Registry
· OR at least at a junior level in an accredited BSN program
Experience:
Prior healthcare business office experience (i.e. unit clerk, insurance, billing or registration office position)
· At least one year of prior clinical experience
License(s)/Certification(s):
· Maintain current BLS certification
· Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Writes, reads, speaks, and comprehends fluent English
· Ability to complete a basic computer course on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) through in-hospital training
Other:
· Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
