ResponsibilitiesThe Patient Companion will provide continuous observation of patients, at bedside or virtually, to minimize the patient's ability to injure themselves or others while in the hospital. Patient needs may include but are not limited to: maintenance of medical interventions, managing behavioral issues, mental health issues, substance abuse issues, wandering, and confusion.Essential Functions:* The Patient Companion maintains safety of patient room by using visual sweeps and routine stripping of room and removal of any and all items that could be used to injure a patient or staff.* Responsible to diligently tend to and be attentive to patient at all times to promote a safe environment.* Within established guidelines, will provide comfort measures for the patient, such as offering fluids, etc.* Provide diversional activities for patients, as appropriate, to include conversing, playing music, watching movies, providing patient with an activity box , etc.* Utilizes a calm, understanding and courteous attitude when communicating and working with patients.* Requests assistance in an emergency situation or when there is a change to the patient's behavior or condition.* As requested by the Nursing Staff, responsible for maintaining a clean environment for the patient by assisting the staff with patient's activities of daily living.
