Job Description: Summary: The Patient Mobility Technician (PMT) will be responsible for ambulation of patients in the acute care setting, allowing patients to maintain mobility and strength, as well as the potential prevention of adverse side effects associated with immobility. These patients may or may not have been evaluated by Physical Therapy (PT) services. The PMT will work closely with nursing and rehab staff to determine appropriate patient mobility caseload and document on the computer based medical record. Appropriate patients should be less complex and capable of ambulating with no more than one person assist. The PMT will not assume duties of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or other clinical staff and should not perform any nursing duties such as bathing, monitoring, IV management or other line alterations. PMT should use all precautions when ambulating patients, including, but not limited to pre-assessment of patients' alertness and clinical status, non-skid socks, gait belts, oxygen needs, etc. The PMT caseload will only be med-surg level patients, and should not extend to the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, New Life Birthing Center, or other clinical areas of the facility. The PMT will train closely with rehab staff to learn safe patient mobility techniques and how to use equipment competently. The PMT will be able to turn on/off bed alarm, transfer a patient to the edge of bed, transfer patient to a chair, ambulate patient to bathroom or in hallway, and sit up in a recliner with chair or bed alarm as needed. PMT will complete a daily worksheet for patient tracking. The PMT will play a critical role in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction with care. Must enjoy working in a care team and show commitment to assisting patients with mobility. The PMT will develop and maintain good human relation skills by consistently displaying a respectful, empathetic, and caring attitude towards staff, patients, and families. The PMT will report to the Director of Rehab Services but will not work under a PT license. Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Ideal candidates have an interest in attending PT, OT or nursing school to gain valuable experience in hospital setting.
