Description Description Admission Determines if/when patient was last registered. Procedure for same day admissions will be followed. Gathers or verifies patient/guarantor demographic information. Obtains signatures from patient/responsible party in a timely manner. Can explain to patient what they are signing and why. Initiative taken to interview patient soon after admission. Determines minor status and obtains verbal consent from parent or allows minor to sign if emancipated. Thoroughly and accurately goes through Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire with patient. Determines appropriate payer based on information collected from patient. Questionable situations are brought to the Financial Counselor for follow-up. Takes initiative to pre-register patients as directed. Locates schedules from ER, X-ray, Therapies, Surgery, Infusion Review Insurance Information Uses correct Financial Class/Payer Code Updates insurance information as appropriate Review insurance card and collects co-payment from patient. Problems with insurance cards/plans are either followed up on at the time or given to then insurance verification staff member to follow-up on Reverse registrations when deemed necessary as appropriate. Reports admitting problems to Lead Registration or Director Communications Properly greets customers. Properly directs customers. Problem situations at the front desk are handled in a low-key manner so as not to aggravate or upset customers. Customers are treated professionally. Correctly receives calls on through phone system. Correctly routes phone calls All phone calls are answered timely. Understands and properly pages as required/requested. Understand and pages Codes and Drills as required/requested. Office Equipment Computers Printers Use of Postage Machine Credit Card Swipe Box Photocopier/Fax Machine Daily Work Correctly reviews previous days registrations to validate accurate information entered, including insurance validation. Late night admission is done thoroughly. Discharges are entered accurately, as appropriate in EHR. Software Use of EHR -Electronic Health Record Shows understanding of intranet/internet and Outlook e-mail. Other Daily Functions Shows initiative in doing daily mail. Prepares call schedules as needed/assigned. Files Patient Information Sheets in Daily Folder Shows flexibility to changing situations and adapts to policy/ regulation changes. Demonstrates ability to work in an organized manner. Uses sounds judgment when handling problem situation. Shows initiative in requesting payment from customer. Correctly records payment in EHR on counter sheet. Must be able to calculate balances due and make correct changes. Miscellaneous Responsibilities Participates in staff meetings, continuing education programs, continuous quality improvement programs, quality assurance. Attends mandatory in-services yearly, CPR, fire safety, disaster and infection control. Complies with universal blood and body fluid precautions. Adheres to personnel and departmental policies and procedures. Is able to assess the development needs of patients from infant to geriatric and plan/adjust care, services and instructions appropriately with the scope of his/her job responsibilities. Exhibits and promotes a positive attitude and outlook in the workplace and in the community. Demonstrates behavior that is conducive to the professional operation of the organization. Participates in and is an advocate of departmental and interdepartmental communication within facility to facilitate improved customer service and patient outcomes. Reports to work when scheduled. Demonstrates flexibility of personal time when requested to come in on a scheduled day off. Adheres to facility and departmental safety policies. Notifies supervisor of any safety concerns/hazards to staff and/or patients/residents Successfully completes required annual job specific competency testing. Work time is used productively, equipment and supplies are taken care of properly (cost conscience use of supplies, disposable/non-disposable/recycled), breaks and lunches are within the time allotted. Other duties assigned by Supervisor. Requirements Qualifications •Previous computer use to include use of keyboard and mouse. •Previous Business Office experience preferred. Training in Medical Terminology preferred. •Experience with dealing with the public directly or by phone. •Experience operating a multifunction telephone preferred. •Keyboard skills of 40 WPM or combination of other qualifications. •Basic math skills •Must follow oral and written instruction. Knowledge Skills and Abilities •Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, public relation, conflict resolution and organizational skills are required. •Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality; to work under pressure and remain flexible with changing demands; to make sound judgments based on established standards, procedures and policies, and to thrive in an ambiguous changing environment.
