Position SummaryGreets patients; schedules and registers MFA patients; performs payment collection process; and provides other administrative and customer-related duties including but not limited to in-processing and out-processing support as needed to provide an excellent experience for MFA patients and support for providers.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.* Greets and directs patients for appointments, tests, referrals and information utilizing effective customer relations skills and telephone techniques.* Perform all registration for new patients and updates registration information for established patients.* Schedule patient appointments, tests and procedures using a computerized scheduling system. Prepares appointment notices; schedules physician referrals inside and outside the MFA;* Reschedules, cancels and verifies appointments.* Obtains documents and verifies patient demographic, financial and insurance information using a computerized scheduling system.* Performs pre-registration activities to gather demographic information; determines medical insurance coverage; identifies patients with delinquent accounts; confirms appointments.* Performs patient appointment maintenance activities, as necessary, to assure patient appointment history is accurate.* Collects co-payment due at time of appointment as well as payments for unpaid balances; prepares receipts for all monies collected; provides copies for reception area, billing office and the patient.* Prints forms or reminder cards necessary to facilitate the patient encounter and daily operations.* Request sign language interpreter when appropriate.* Respond to customer inquiries.* Able to research, analyze and schedule in first available view, schedule view and detail view in Epic.* Creates and generates referrals for patients as required.* Displays exemplary phone etiquette.* Focuses on and able to provide exemplary customer service.* Works collaboratively with members and staff across service lines.* Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Two years of college is preferred.ExperienceTwo years of experience in providing customer services is necessary, preferably at least a year in physician office and/or ambulatory care setting. At least a year performing patient scheduling is preferred. Experience utilizing a computerized patient scheduling system or computer terminals is necessary. Familiarity with medical insurance and medical terminology is preferred along with referral and prescription intake experience. Typing skills of 30 WPM is required. Knowledge of patient scheduling/registration systems is preferred.CompetenciesMust be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the MFA.Must be able to deal with a variety of emotions and frustrations while maintaining appropriate enthusiasm in calls. Emotional stability and professional demeanor are important attributes in this position.
