At the direction of the RN or Paramedic, and assigned to a specific patient, the Patient Sitter will remain in constant attendance with the patient to help maintain the patient's safety.The primary responsibility of the Patient Sitter is:
- Remain in constant attendance with the assigned high-risk patient until relieved by a qualified individual. This includes when the patient leaves the unit for procedures or tests.
- Perform specific activities (non-nursing) at the direction of the patient's nurse/paramedic.
- Report any observed changes in the patient's condition to the patient's nurse/paramedic.
- Obtain immediate assistance from the patient's nurse/paramedic in the case of any unusual circumstances, or with any restrained patient who needs assistance or attention.
- May read, play cards/games with, and/or interact with the patient.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to the confidentiality policy at all times
An ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
- Previous healthcare experience involving direct interactions with a patient.
- Must be able to relate easily to both children and adults with all types of illnesses.
