Sunshine in human form and a guardian angel on earth, as a Patient Sitter, you're on the front line of patient care and safety under the direction senior medical staff and supporting the patient care team. Ensuring patients safety and injury prevention and reaching out to nursing staff if the patient requires assistance or intervention outside of the scope of your expertise, you gather every ounce of kindness, respect and empathy assisting patients in their recovery care. Your Everyday
* Provide constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevent injury.
* Obtain hand-off from the off going sitter or nurse to include information regarding the patient's identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory or language barriers, as well as any special considerations and behaviors to monitor.
* Greet patient, identify self, and explain purpose and position self to maintain constant visual observation of the patient. Never leave the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the nurse.
* Obtain instruction from nurse regarding ambulation limitations and course of action for redirection of patient if needed.
* Observe patient's activity and behavior, communicate on a regular basis to the nurse, and immediately notify the nurse if patient displays behaviors that are out of the ordinary or there is an attempt to escape or there has been a change in the health status of the patient.
* Provide for patient comfort, safety and satisfaction. Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.
* Accompany the patient to other areas of the hospital for diagnostic tests or upon transfer to other units.
* Transport lab specimens, patient equipment and patient belongings as required with the patient.
* Perform hand hygiene before and after patient contact. Adheres to isolation procedures according to the infection control policy.
* Promote a positive patient experience:
* Communicate in a professional manner and demonstrate respect for patients, families and team members.
* Demonstrate understanding of the use of unit technology i.e., call systems, bed controls and TV controls
* Document patient information using either the appropriate paper forms or in the electronic health record and in conformation with HIPPA regulations.
The Must-Haves
Minimum:
* High School Diploma/GED or previous work experience as a certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, or psychiatric technician
* Current American Heart Association BLS certification
* Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification.
