Description Summary: Under general supervision by a licensed professional, the Patient Sitter is responsible for monitoring assigned patients within the hospital. They alert staff to patient needs and may assist with basic patient care and feeding. CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline overlooking Corpus Christi Bay is the largest and foremost acute care medical facility in the region, with a full range of diagnostic and surgical specialty services in cardiac, cancer, and stroke care. It is the leading emergency facility in the area with a Level II Trauma Center in the Coastal Bend, staffed with physicians and nurses specially trained in emergency services. The Pavilion and North Tower house a state-of-the-art emergency department, ICU, Cardiac Cath Lab and surgical suites A teaching facility in affiliation with the Texas A&M University System Health and Science Center College of Medicine Accredited Chest Pain Center Accredited Joint Commission Stroke Team Responsibilities: Under the direction of a licensed professional, provides sitter services for the patient who has an order for 1:1 staffing. The Patient Sitter watches over the patient and ensures the patient is in a safe environment at all times. The Patient Sitter will report to the nurse or charge nurse should the patient try to get out of bed, pull on their tubes, or display other behavior that may cause harm to themselves or others. Suicide and high-risk patients MUST be attended at all times. The Patient Sitter must have the ability to maintain appropriate precautions for suicidal patients as indicated in the Suicidal Patient Policy. The Patient Sitter must have the ability to maintain visual contact with the patient at all times, including toileting. The Patient Sitter may provide assistance with direct patient care under the direction of a licensed professional. These duties may include turning, feeding, bathing, and bathroom needs. The Patient Sitter must communicate with the patient care team to include other Patient Sitters, CNAs, LVNs, or RNs by receiving report at the beginning of the shift. The Patient Sitter must accompany the patient while off the floor for procedures and may not take the patient to smoke, to the cafeteria or gift shop. Requirements: Education/Skills High School diploma or equivalent. Experience Previous related experience preferred.
