DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves providing physical duties including transport
of patients and patient care while walking to multiple areas throughout the Erie County Medical Center Corporation
(ECMCC) campus. The incumbent provides indirect care and direct care to patients in accordance with the policies and
regulations of Federal, State and local authorities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-ranking
employees. Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Provides patient care, transport of patients identified as unstable per medical personnel and handling equipment and
monitors during transport;
Locates all units and testing areas as applicable to their assignments.
Wears and utilizes communication devices appropriately while maintaining HIPPA compliance;
Follows dispatching application process;
Responds immediately to transport requests;
Verifies at least two forms of identification with information on electronic device and information on patient's ID band
and chart before transporting;
Checks-in with medical personnel upon arrival to or delivery of a patient to a specified location;
Contacts dispatch or unit with any discrepancies between information on device and identification information
provided by patient prior to transporting;
Place's emergency call light in reach of patient upon return to room and confirms that bed alarm is on;
Reports any patient care issues or incidents to the Unit Manager or Supervisor;
Does not share medical records or documentation with patient during transport;
Communicates patient concerns or requests to medical personnel;
Communicates with dispatch to report delays, cancellations, etc.;
Immediately reports changes in patient condition to closest medical personnel;
Participates and completes regulatory compliance in-services and continuing education programs to improve skills;
Cleans equipment according to policy and procedure between each patient use;
Cares for personal need items such as eyeglasses, hearing aides, canes, wheelchairs and other adaptive devices;
Transports deceased patients to morgue and follows all policy and procedures in accordance with safe handling while
transporting body;
Adheres to department dress code;
Utilizes designated break areas and scheduled break times.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITITES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

working knowledge of infection control precautions; demonstrates knowledge of hospital emergency procedures;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification within six (6) months of appointment.
